ROCKET MAN: A Live Orchestral Experience is a fresh symphonic homage to Elton John, the creation of its lead performer, arranger, and orchestrator, Michael Sobie. The idea was born during his five-year tenure as the pops pianist with the Grand Rapids Symphony. Following several smaller iterations around the US, from solo piano/vocal to an 11-piece rock band and many configurations in between, Michael began crafting ROCKET MAN in fall of 2023.

After over 1,000 hours of work on his own arrangements, orchestrations, and considerable aspects of production, ROCKET MAN premiered in Santa Monica on May 17, 2024. A symphony orchestra comprised of LA’s top session musicians filled St. Monica Catholic Church with incredible sound and energy as Michael performed 21 legendary hits such as “Bennie and the Jets,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and, of course, “Rocket Man.”

Michael Sobie brings to life his and audience’s favorite classic rock songs with new arrangements that pay tribute to Elton John, Bernie Taupin, and all the wonderful musicians that have had the good fortune to work with the famed duo over the past 50+ years.

The concert is best summed up by renowned pianist and music director Michael Orland, who referred to the show as "A love letter to Elton John."
